Access to the geographical information is reserved to registered users.

Consultation can be via any web browser (Mozilla Firefox; Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, etc.) without the need for other applications or plug-ins.

For a better connection – given the volume of data transmitted – an xDSL (cd. “Fast Internet”) connection is recommended.

On the basis of his user profile, the registered user has access to one or more “mapsets” – map collections with a specific definition of the co-ordinates, the included themes and the graphical representations used – displayable through the OpenSource-FreeSoftWare GisClient2.0 application, released under the GNU/GPL license. Other than the usual functions of the common cartographic visualisations (e.g. pMapper) Gisclient2.0 contains advanced research instruments combining geometric and alphanumeric parameters.

Except where specifically stated, the mapsets Except where specifically stated, the mapsets are represented in the cartographic System WGS84/UTM (EPSG SRID/PostGIS SRID = 32632). On the thematic characters available in different geodetic systems and cartographic representations, a ‘on the fly’ reprojection is operated by UMN MapServer.
